Posted in Fashion / Fashion blog / Fashion photo shoots / Fashion pictures What more beautiful and clever use of a reflective surface than in this shoot by Warren du Preez and Nick Thornton? The styling by Franck Benhamou points to the same creature as does the shoot’s title: Nymphe . At times looking the water nymph in azure blue or sequins, at others Eniko Mihalik is swathed in ruffles or fresh flowers appearing as a mythological sprite of the mountains or woods. The mirrored surface not only makes for a neat photography effect but also draws parallels of Echo – that famed nymph cursed to only repeat the words of others – and her reflection-loving Narcissus. Darkness in the Garden of Angels
May 13th, 2012
admin Posted in Fashion / Fashion blog / Fashion photo shoots / Fashion pictures Ohlsdorf Cemetery is so big it’s more like a gated city for the dead. Over 1.5 million burials have ceremonially taken place on the sweeping grounds of the Hamburg landmark, and it holds the title of the largest non-military cemetery in the world. Consider this, though: it’s also a tourist attraction. The grand mausoleums and flowering rhododendrons are visual wonderment to those who crave peaceful garden-like beauty, drawing bigger crowds even than just those who find the graves themselves hauntingly fascinating, historical, or perhaps a bittersweet reminder of life’s ephemeral fragility. And so death, that unwelcome hand of decay, becomes mingled with the freshness of flowers and the beauty of life. Life and death are poles that can’t exist independently of eachother, after all. And the world above is free to roam and marvel at the sleeping world below. Article continues . To read it in full visit ‘ Darkness in the Garden of Angels ‘ at Fashionising.com
Shoes & books: objects of desire (video)
May 13th, 2012
admin Posted in Fashion / Fashion blog / Fashion photo shoots / Fashion pictures Books and shoes … Aside for books that happen to be about shoes, the two things have little in common. Shoes are both protective and aesthetic; books usually set out to inform or entertain. But if there’s one commonality that ties the two together it’s that they’re both collectable and as such become an objet du fetish to particular people. This shoot by RenĂ©e Rodenkirchen brings the two things together in a rhythmic kind of harmony. Piles of books, rows of shoes. Both turned into objects of desire by the mannequin-like anonymous bodies. Article continues . To read it in full visit ‘ Shoes & books: objects of desire (video) ‘ at Fashionising.com
Mondovi: glamorous even in sleep
May 13th, 2012
admin Posted in Fashion / Australian fashion week / Fashion blog / Fashion pictures / Runway & fashion shows Rarely does so much glamour get packed into so little fabric, as it does when Mondovi designer DoDo Leung puts thread to needle and designs a new collection. Though for a lingerie offering you’re still likely to encounter much more fabric than usual: Leung’s background in designing eveningwear shows through in volumes. Its in the sparkling embellishments, in the sweeping pleats, in the long-line shapes and robes and capelets that are made to make the wearer feel that they’re lounging around casually in some glittering palace. An American in Italy
May 13th, 2012
admin Posted in Fashion / Fashion blog / Fashion photo shoots / Fashion pictures There’s a deliberate hint of irony to the styling of Diego Diaz Marin ‘s latest shoot, our protagonist roaming Italy in revealing and at times inappropriate outfits. She’s an American girl, run away to the Italian summer, though what she’s running from we don’t know. The title suggests that another country can offer her not just sun and solitude, but anonymity. A rich heiress, perhaps? Article continues . To read it in full visit ‘ An American in Italy ‘ at Fashionising.com
Beauty to leave you speechless
May 13th, 2012
admin Posted in Fashion / Fashion blog / Fashion photo shoots / Fashion pictures I’m not often lost for words, as my unfairly battered keyboard will attest, but this shoot by Lev Efimov leaves me near mute. There’s not one element that doesn’t nudge the upper boundaries of sheer perfection… Tana Stychinskaya’s styling mix of mesh , leather, satin and lace; Ernest Muntaniol’s brilliant feline makeup, and hair that jumps style from Jessica Rabbit-like curls to a slick androgynous quiff; and Lev Efimov’s flawless black and white photography.
